Cleaning My WRX STI with Minimal Water

It was so dirty I wanted to wash it, but there’s no running water in my mountain workshop. I came up with a clever way to remove 15 years of grime from my WRX STI using minimal water. It’s not a recommended method, though.

あまりの汚さに、洗車したいと思っていました。でも山小屋工房には水道がありません。最小限の水で、WRXSTIに15年間貯まった汚れを落とすいい方法を思いつきました。あまりお勧めできる方法ではありませんが。

２　This work　今回の作業

I would really like to give it a thorough wash with car shampoo and tap water. However, there is no running water in the mountain hut workshop. Also, I’m worried about the mountain hut leaking. Since water is the enemy of old cars, I’ll try to clean it with the minimum amount of water necessary. I decided to spray water on it with a spray bottle and wipe it off with kitchen paper.

本当はカーシャンプーと水道でさっぱりと洗いたいところですが、山小屋工房には、あいにく水道がありません。それと雨漏りの心配もあり、古い車は水が大敵ということもあって必要最小限の水で綺麗にしようと思います。ということで、水を霧吹きで吹きかけてキッチンペーパーでふき取ることにしました。

It’s a very mundane task, but I tried wiping it all down.

It looks a little cleaner in the photo. In reality, the dirt was so bad that it can hardly be called a car wash. There are also moss and stains. So, once I can drive it, I’d like to give it a good polish.

とても地味な作業ですがひととおり拭いてみました。

写真だと少しキレイに見えるかもしれませんが、実際は洗車したとはとても言えないレべルで汚れが残りました。また、コケやシミは残っていますので、自走できるようになればしっかりと磨いてやりたいと思います。

The mountain hut workshop is also in tatters, so even if I put it inside it would get dirty. So I decided to put a car cover over it. I splurged a little and bought a Rain-X car cover, size L, with a 4-layer structure.

山小屋工房もボロボロで中に入れていても汚れてしまうのでカーカバーをかけることにしました。少し奮発してレインエックスのカーカバーＬサイズ　4層構造カーカバーを購入しました。

I chose the L size from the compatibility chart, but it’s a little big. I guess it’s okay as “bigger is better.”

適応表からＬサイズを選びましたが少し大きいです。「大は小を兼ねる」ということで良しとしましょう。

３　Costs to date and next work schedule　今回までの費用と次回の作業予定

The total cost was 42,000 yen last time and 7,200 yen this time, for a total of about 50,000 yen. Next time, I’ll have the battery replaced.

使った費用は前回までの42,000円に今回7,200円合わせて約50,000円となりました。次回は、バッテリー交換をしようと思います。
