This time, I’ll be talking about draining the gasoline from a tank I filled up 15 years ago. Gasoline is very dangerous, so I worked carefully and with no open flames allowed. I was also able to see inside the gas tank, so I’d like to share that with you.
今回は15年前に満タンにしておいたガソリンを抜いた話です。ガソリンはとても怖いので火気厳禁で慎重に作業しました。ガソリンタンクの内部も確認できたので合わせて紹介したいと思います。
１ Tools used and costs 使った道具と費用
What I purchased this time 今回購入した物
Fuel pump, Daiso, ￥100 給油ポンプ ダイソー 1本 100円
Stock items ストック品
Rubber hose, 2 pails ゴムホース、ペール缶 2本、
(For removing the fuel pump)（燃料ポンプ取り外し用）
Ratchet wrench, 8mm socket, 12mm socket (for rear seat bolts), silicone spray, pliers, Phillips head screwdriver, etc.
ラチェットレンチ、8ミリソケット、12ミリソケット（後部座席ボルト用）、シリコンスプレー、ペンチ、プラスドライバー等
I thought I filled it up 15 years ago, but the fuel gauge says it’s only half full.The gas tank of the WRXSTI (GC8) is 60 liters. Since there was only half of the gas left, I prepared two pails.
15年前に満タンにしたつもりでいたけど、燃料計によると半分になっている。WRXSTI（GC8）のガソリンタンクは60リットルですけど、残っているガソリンは半分なのでペール缶2本用意しました。
２ This work 今回の作業
Remove the fuel pump and use the pump to suck the fuel from there. So remove the rear seat and remove the fuel pump on the driver’s side. First, remove the oval cover.
燃料ポンプを外してそこからポンプで吸引します。なので後部座席を外して運転席側にある燃料ポンプを外します。最初に楕円形の蓋を外します。
Then the top cover with the fuel pump attached comes out. The bolts, hoses and cords are all old, so I proceed carefully and nervously to avoid breaking anything.
すると燃料ポンプが付いた上蓋が出てきます。ボルトもホースもコードが古く、ドキドキしながら壊すことのないように慎重に作業を進めます。
I was able to remove the fuel pump without any problems.
無事に燃料ポンプを外すことができました。
I looked at the tank with trepidation. As far as I could see, there didn’t seem to be any rust. In fact, it was cleaner than I had imagined. This may be because the tank was full of fuel. It seems that no parts are available for the fuel tank, so I was relieved.
恐る恐るタンクを覗いてみても見える範囲では全然錆びてなさそうです。というか想像以上にキレイでした。これは燃料を満タンにしていたおかげかもしれません。燃料タンクは部品がでないようなので一安心です。
I drained the gasoline by looking into the trunk. The work went smoothly.
トランクから覗き込む形でガソリンを抜きました。順調に作業できました。
It’s only about one and a half pails full, so the fuel gauge doesn’t seem to be broken.
ちょうどペール缶１本と半分ぐらいなので、燃料計は壊れてなさそうです。
The gasoline that was extracted this time will be stored temporarily, with no open flames allowed, and disposed of properly. I will introduce it again once it has been disposed of.
今回抜いたガソリンは火気厳禁で一時保管し適正に処分しようと思います。処分が終わったらまた紹介したいと思います。
3 Costs so far and next steps planned 今回までの費用と次の作業の予定
This time, the total cost was 37,000 yen, including the 100 yen for the pump. This work reminded me of the time I won a fuel pump on Yahoo! Auctions more than 14 years ago. Next time, I’ll try replacing the fuel pump for the first time in my life.
今回はポンプの費用100円とこれまでの合計37,000円合わせて、37,000円です。今回の作業で、以前14年以上前に燃料ポンプをヤフオクで落札したことを思い出しました。次回は生まれて初めての燃料ポンプを交換しようと思います。
